Primeweld CT520DP Pilot Arc 50A Plasma Cutter/200A Tig/Stick Welder Review

So we would have to be 100% honest when we saw this Primeweld CT520DP Pilot Arc 50A Plasma Cutter/200A Tig/Stick Welder for the first time we were impressed. Do you have a welder's dream right here, with the tank and stick welder with a plasma cutter all in one package. All you need now is a nice grinder and you have a fabricator set all put together. What are the advantages and disadvantages of purchasing this product and owning it? Also, there are others saying about their purchase, are they happy with it? That is what we are going to find out so let's dive deeper into that subject.

  • Multipurpose Unit
  • Variety of cutting and welding functions
  • Small weight (32 pounds)
  • Plasma cutter is pull in play start method (no need to strike on metal)
  • You are able to add additional functions pretty easy
  • Live Customer Support

So these are the advantages that we are see with this Primeweld CT520DP Pilot Arc 50A Plasma Cutter/200A Tig/Stick Welder. We like how it has multiple tools and functions that it is capable of. This unit is only 32 pounds which is lighter than most other welders we have seen on job sites. The plasma cutter we really like because it is not like the older model the CT520D. With that model, you had to strike the tip on a piece of metal to start the plasma cutter. With this one, you just pull the trigger and start going, so take that into consideration when choosing your cutter. If you are wanting to turn the Tig into an AC system you can easily upgrade your welder to be capable of that. With all three of these fabricating components the Tig, Stick, and Plasma Cutter being included into Primeweld CT520DP Pilot Arc 50A Plasma Cutter/200A Tig/Stick Welder, saves hundreds of dollars from buying separately. Lastly, we really like how if we have a problem we can just call the company and they actually answer the phone. Talking to a real person on the phone about our problem helps us connect with that company and their products. If we are going to speak to a computer or a robot then we are not connected to your company, so if your product breaks we will just buy from a competitor. But not with this company Primeweld keeps a great customer support staff so they can help you when a problem comes up. Now onto the disadvantages of buying this product and owning it.

  • Not Compatible with other welder brands consumables
  • The cooldown for duty cycle
  • The knobs are a bit cheap quality

These are the only disadvantages that we could think of with the unit. Overall Primeweld CT520DP Pilot Arc 50A Plasma Cutter/200A Tig/Stick Welder is a great looking machine and does a great job. But with every review, there is advantages and always disadvantages as well. So a few things that we did not like about the model was first the knobs are a bit cheaply made. The whole machine does not seem that way, just the knobs but still not a deal-breaker. Next, we do not like that the consumables for this unit are not interchangeable with other welder brands. This means if you need anything for your unit to repair or replace you have to order it directly from Primeweld. That makes us a little uneasy because what if the company goes under ten years from now? Next, we do not like that the unit has a safety duty cycle, which means after welding or cutting for ten minutes then we have to let the machine rest for four minutes. Which is still a great time to grab a drink of water especially if you are welding on a nice hot day. Still, those are the disadvantages we saw with this unit, overall we are happy with our purchase and look forward to using this unit for years to come.

What Are Others Saying

Quite a few reviews on the Primeweld CT520DP Pilot Arc 50A Plasma Cutter/200A Tig/Stick Welder here are one of the reviews we found to be helpful.

I can’t say enough about this plasma cutter! For the money I have to be honest it is one of the best plasma cutters I have owned in a long time. It is very simple to use and a piece of cake to set up. I really like the warranty with Primeweld, it is a 3-year warranty! That covers my welder and gives me peace of mind knowing I have a strong running unit. I have seen on other people's reviews that they talk to Mike at the company. Mike I guess has a great reputation to help get the products you need for your unit as quickly as possible. So I called the company and what do you know, Mike answered the phone! He assured me that my 3-year warranty is a no question asked warranty, they have me covered! I was so happy to hear this, he even said if they could not fix the unit in house he would ship me another unit! I love my unit and couldn’t be happier, great job Primeweld!
